American couple got married on Ethereum blockchain
A couple from California got married using tokenized rings. They said this was done to make their marriage last forever on the Ethereum blockchain.
Rebecca Rose and Peter Kacherginsky got married using the Ethereum blockchain. it must be said that the couple are Coinbase exchange’s employees and the bride announced this physical and virtual marriage on April 3 on her Twitter.
Kacherginsky wrote an Ethereum smart contract called Tabaat (= ring in Hebrew) which issued rings, actually tokenized “rings” NFTs in the form of TBT tokens to the couples' wallets. He did this after his Jewish Wedding Ceremony. While this 2,218 line-long smart contract can tokenize a marriage contract for $537, an actual physical marriage would cost $25,000 in the US.
It takes two transactions for the ceremony to complete on the blockchain, the transfer of the NFT rings from the contract to Peter and Rose’s wallet. The Coinbase employee’s ceremony on the Ethereum blockchain took 4 minutes to be verified and $50 was the fee of the transaction. This NFT is an animation. Carl Johan Hasselrot is the creator of this NFT in which there are two circles that merge and become one. Rebecca Rose expressed her viewpoint on this blockchain marriage;
“The blockchain, unlike physical objects, is forever. It is unstoppable, impossible to censor, and does not require anyone’s permission. Just as love should be. What could possibly be more romantic than that?”
It must be mentioned that this, however, is not the second blockchain-based marriage and the first one was held in 2014 for David Mondrus and Joyce Bayo with Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT).
